This spring, The Michelson Institute for Intellectual Property partnered with VentureWell to conduct focus groups on university-based intellectual property education and policy. The goal of the study was to explore the perspectives of faculty, administrators, and students, including what participants see as the greatest needs in regard to improving IP education and facilitating student invention and innovation on their respective campuses.
VentureWell has now released a full report on the key findings uncovered – Strengthening university-based systems to support the development of intellectual property (IP) strategies: insights from faculty, administrators, and students. The publication outlines five elements of a university-based system that supports student and faculty innovators in developing IP strategies. These interrelated elements represent the “ideal state” of a university-based system.
